South Hunsley School – A Specialist School in Technology and Engineering

September 2004 heralded the start of the Specialist School Programme at South Hunsley. Initial funding enabled the Design and Technology block to have an extensive facelift including new ICT suite, new materials storage and preparation facility and improved learning environments. Subsequent funding and plans have ensured that the whole school and every student has benefitted and this is very much the ethos - whole school improvement with a particularly rich specialist area. We are proud that since 2004 achievement at South Hunsley has continued to rise and we are now recognised as a High Performing Specialist School - an accolade only given to those schools where the students really achieve.

We have made links with all of the major national organisations that are actively involved in promoting high quality experiences for students.

To pick out a few of the highlights of the last school year:

  • Brian Chu and Ratul Hora both won Arkwright Scholarships following thorough interview preparation organised by South Hunsley and BAE Systems.
  • Pippa Horton (Head Girl) has joined BAE Systems (Brough) for her year in industry before continuing her engineering studies at Cambridge.
  • AS Engineering student Jonathan Duffield achieved a place in top 10% in the country following support on his coursework from local engineers Pat Callaway and Chris Austen (A2 Engineering) achieved a place in the top 5% of students.
  • GCSE Engineering student Tom Wilson achieved 100% in his written exam - a first for this course at South Hunsley.
  • Students from Years 7 - Kiem Ablett and Amy Hewitt took first place in the BAE Schools Challenge.
