South Hunsley School Sport Partnership (South Hunsley SSP)
The School Sport Co-ordinator programme was first launched in September 2000 with an initial 600 School Sport Co-ordinators (SSCo's) being funded through Sport England's Lottery Fund. These were targeted at areas of greatest deprivation. Through the PE, School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL) strategy, the government has ensured that School Sport Partnerships are now an integral part of every LEA and schools PE and school sport strategy. The structure of these Partnerships builds on the good practice demonstrated by the first few phases.
Every school in England now has the opportunity to be part of a School Sport Partnership. School Sport Partnerships (SSP) are families of schools that come together to enhance sporting opportunities for all. There are approximately 400 Partnerships with 3,200 SSCo's in secondary schools and 18,000 primary or special school link teachers.
South Hunsley (the Hub School) has been given funding to employ a full time Partnership Development Manager (PDM), who is responsible for the strategic development of the Partnership and liaison with other agencies.
There are 9 secondary schools within the South Hunsley SSP, each employing a School Sport Co-ordinator (SSCo). This role is performed be an existing teacher that is released from the teaching timetable for 2 days per week, or solely employed as an SSCo in a part time role. The SSCo is responsible for the co-ordination and development of school sport in their secondary school and a family of primary / special schools. The SSP also has a link to Bishop Burton Further Education College, where a Further Education Sports Co-ordinator (FESCo) is employed for 2 days per week in the same capacity as the SSCO role.
Each of the primary schools will have a Primary Link Teacher (PLT), an existing teacher that is released from teaching for 12 days per year, who is responsible for the development and delivery of high quality PE and sport in their own school. This is usually the PE Coordinator but not always.
Each Partnership receives a grant to employ a PDM and to enable the schools to release teachers to undertake the SSCo, FESCo and PLT roles.
The South Hunsley School Sport Partnership includes 1 PDM, 1 FESCo, 9 SSCo’s and 61 PLTs. To view a diagram of the relationships between these please open this pdf file.
