South Hunsley is the highest performing mixed secondary school in the East Riding and has consistently improved GCSE results over the past 5 years. As a result, we have been awarded High Performing Specialist School status and saw our highest ever results in 2009 with 70% of GCSE students achieving 5A*-C including English and Maths and 83% achieving 5A*-C at GCSE. Results at our Sixth Form College in 2009 saw a 50 point increase on last year and almost half of our students achieved an A or B at A Level, our overall pass rate was 99.4%
Our students are successful, motivated and personable and supported by parents and carers who form a strong partnership with us. We place emphasis on our students recognising their responsibility to themselves and to others and being aware of the impact of local, national and global issues. Over the last two years a strong student voice has emerged and students are very much involved in leading change within South Hunsley.
In addition to our Technology and Engineering specialism we were awarded Training School status in 2004 and can offer staff a blend of quality training experiences. Through our dedicated Training manager and Training School programmes, we are able to offer first class support for new staff, including NQTs. Our third and most recent specialism, Leadership Partner School, has resulted in work taking place on a range of leadership and succession planning activities and will also offer staff professional development opportunities.
South Hunsley is an integral part of its local community and has received national recognition for the developments in sport and extended services. We have exceptional community resources and facilities, including a fully-equipped gym, pool and dance studio in our school and community sports centre. Along with 7 feeder primaries and a special school we make up the South Hunsley Partnership and we also have a number of active relationships with industry and commerce as well as a unique Post 16 partnership with Bishop Burton College.
Our success has come as a result of the hard work and dedication of all our staff and a innovative and committed leadership team. We have a highly qualified, specialist teaching staff and a large number of associate staff who ably support the many facets of the school's functions. Location
South Hunsley is a large comprehensive school, with around 1950 students on roll, in the semi-rural local authority of the East Riding of Yorkshire. It is situated in the pretty village of Melton very close to the A63 so is easily accessible from major trunk routes. Our catchment is widespread and includes the village of Brough and several surrounding villages.
